On June 27, 2022, ISEF’s community came together in person for a heartwarming celebration on a beautiful waterfront terrace. The event raised significant funds to support ISEF’s more than 400 gifted Israeli students.
The event honored Board Member and Endowment Committee Chair Robert Y. Shasha, and introduced the Helen and Henry Newman Scholarship Endowment Fund, established by Sylvia and Albert Safer.

ISEF President Carlos Benaim also paid tribute to ISEF Co-Founder Nina A. Weiner for winning the Israel President’s Award for Volunteerism; to the Edmond J. Safra Philanthropic Foundation for its unwavering leadership support of ISEF; and to ISEF’s Israel Board Chair, Professor Nir Kedar, recently named President of Sapir College in the Negev.
Benaim noted ISEF’s astonishing success with first-generation students — reducing dropout rates in challenging STEM disciplines from near 50% to just 2%!
ISEF’s incredible results over 45 years—transforming the lives of thousands of first-generation Israeli students, making Israel more secure and prosperous—are only possible thanks to the generous support of ISEF’s many friends. Together we share a powerful vision –that expanding access to higher education holds the key to a bright future for Israel.

Mor Elgarisi, an ISEF Ph.D. candidate at the Technion, told the fascinating story of his rise from development town childhood to pursuing a Ph.D., and making history by devising new technologies tested in space by NASA and Israeli astronaut Eytan Stibbe!
